Plastics Industry Recycling Action Plan (PIRAP)

Working together to increase the recycling of UK plastics packaging waste

Far too much recyclable plastic packaging material is currently sent for disposal – this is a waste of a valuable resource. PIRAP is an industry action plan that highlights where improvements may be made to enhance collection rates, adopt best-in-class collection methods, optimise sorting infrastructure and develop end markets for recycled plastic. It was set up in June 2015 and is being implemented by the BPF and Plastics Europe with the support of WRAP.

Resource Management Minister, Rory Stewart said: “I am delighted to endorse the Plastics Industry Recycling Action Plan (PIRAP).  We are recycling more than ever before and have doubled the recycling of plastic packaging over the last 12 years.   This reflects a lot of hard work by industry across the supply chain, but there is still more to be done. That’s why it is so encouraging to see industry working together to develop this plan which will help us to protect the environment and grow the economy.”  16 June 2015
