Non-Household Municipal Waste Business grant

The outcome of the assessment for Stage 1 will be announced the week commencing 21 October.

This grant will provide capital infrastructure to support collection and recycling of non-household municipal waste (or business waste) in England. 

The aim is to encourage organisations that collect or facilitate collection of this waste to provide new or improved recycling services. There is an additional aim of providing new infrastructure and better access to services targeting / benefitting small to medium enterprises (SMEs).

How much funding can I apply for?

WRAP is funding projects ranging in value from £25,000 to £170,000.

What projects are eligible?

We are looking for organisations of any size who can demonstrate that they are increasing the collection and recycling of household-like waste from businesses.

Eligible activities include:

Capital investment only i.e. tangible assets specifically related to NHM recycling:
Plant equipment such as:

  • Loading equipment
  • Weigh bridges
  • Sorting equipment such as screens, pre-sort cabin/conveyor equipment, 2D & 3D equipment, separators, overband magnets, baling equipment
  • Wheelie bins / containers directly associated that form part of a larger project that will deliver innovation and capture NHM waste for recycling. (i.e. not like for like replacement of existing bins where no additional capacity/tonnage is demonstrated)
  • Vehicles - modifications to allow NHM collection
  • MRF alterations to cover additional stream
  • Picking station at MRFs
  • Modifications to household waste recycling centres. Vehicle recognition equipment
  • Storage solutions bays, shelving etc.

Assessing your application

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the following criteria:

  • Eligibility (including legal status, location, overview of business etc.)
  • Proposed project activity (how the project will meet the scope of the fund)
  • Ability to deliver the project, demonstrating timescales and experience
  • Potential project impact, including proposed monitoring
