WRAP’s Materials Pricing Report goes out to Tender

29 January 2007
WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) has put the production of its successful Materials Pricing Report out to competitive tender. The Government-backed organisation is looking for a company capable of producing a credible and independent guide to prices for recyclable materials on a regular basis, as well as maintaining subscriber and pricing databases.

Distributed electronically, the Materials Pricing Report is a free weekly subscription service aimed specifically at buyers and sellers of recovered materials, such as local authorities, waste management companies, social economy businesses and reprocessors. It contains pricing information based on actual transaction data, as well as a commentary section which includes market intelligence on the key factors driving the market.

The publication is an important element in WRAP’s work to encourage and enable businesses and consumers to be more efficient in their use of materials and recycle more items more often, with the aim of helping to minimise landfill, reduce carbon emissions and improve our environment.

Liz Dixon Smith, Economist with WRAP, explains: “The Materials Pricing Report was introduced by WRAP in mid 2004 to improve the transparency of the markets for recyclable materials. It offers an independent authoritative source of pricing information on recyclable materials and helps subscribers achieve market prices for their material.”

“The recycling sector has evolved substantially since its launch, and we need to ensure that the report also grows to meet the needs of the market. We are therefore seeking submissions from companies that can help us to maintain and develop the report in the future.”

The scope of the work includes: producing the Materials Pricing Report on a regular basis; maintaining databases of subscriber and pricing information; and working with WRAP to build the subscriber base. Collaboration with WRAP is also required to help develop the report to include new materials or additional analytical tools.

The successful company will be expected to produce regular Materials Pricing Reports from 1 April 2007 until at least 31 March 2008 and beyond by mutual consent, subject to market testing.

Interested parties can download the tender document MKN001-002 containing the full criteria from the WRAP website at www.wrap.org.uk, or obtain a hard copy by emailing liz.dixonsmith@wrap.org.uk.

The deadline for receipt of tender submissions is 12:30pm on Monday 19 February.
