WRAP workshops promote cost savings for the construction industry in using hydraulically bound materials
WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme) will be running a series of workshops to encourage construction projects to reduce costs, carbon emissions and improve resource efficiency by using hydraulically bound materials (HBMs).
HBMs include both soil and aggregate mixtures and have been used for over 50 years, mainly within the foundations of major roads. However, the potential applications for the use of HBMs in construction are much wider, and include:
- piling platforms;
- liners;
- flood defences and erosion protection;
- earthworks;
- in trench reinstatement; and
- as highway pavement bases.
The use of HBMs within these applications has the potential to reduce project costs, lower carbon emissions, limit the need for primary aggregates and minimise the materials removed from site. Despite these distinct advantages HBMs are still relatively underused in the UK.
Scott Wilson, in partnership with WRAP will be running nine regional workshops and a direct advice programme for clients, contractors, suppliers and manufacturers interested in gaining a greater understanding of the benefits of HBMs.
Each event will provide information and guidance in the range of HBMs and their full range of applications in construction. The workshops are free of charge and open to everyone.
