Recycle Week 2008 Dates Announced

27 November 2007

Recycle Week 2008 will kick-off on Monday 2nd June 2008 for a week of exciting, high profile activities focusing on the benefits of recycling.

The annual event, which is now in its fifth year, is organised by WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) in partnership with the leading materials recycling organisations, British Glass, Corus, Novelis, PaperChain and Recoup.  Recycle Week is also supported by the national recycling campaigns in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, together with a growing number of local authorities.

Fridey Cordingley, Head of Recycle Now said:

“Recycle Week continues to go from strength to strength which reflects the continued and valued support from our all our industry partners, including local authorities.

“The Week is increasingly being used as an effective platform to communicate positive messages about recycling and showcase real achievements, as well as to inspire the public to recycle even more.  Last year there were 168 local events during the Week and the continued, enthusiastic support from local authorities is a major key to its success. We are looking forward to building on previous years to make 2008 the best one yet.”

Diana Caldwell, Communications Manager at Novelis Recycling said:

“Recycle Week is an ideal opportunity to focus attention on the benefits of recycling at a local and national level and provide a positive boost to all our activities.  For 2008 the materials reprocessors are working with WRAP to develop projects that we hope will add value to the campaign and be used by local authorities both for Recycle Week itself and beyond.”

Plans for Recycle Week 2008 are well underway and regular announcements will be made outlining promotional activity and support materials available for local authorities and industry stakeholders to plan their activities well in advance.

In the meantime, anyone interested in keeping up-to-date with developments should log onto www.recyclenowpartners.org.uk and register to receive regular news updates on Recycle Week 2008.
