Recycle Now website features new section on packaging reduction
Consumers can now find out more about packaging on WRAP’s (Waste & Resources Action Programme) Recycle Now website. A new section has been added to the site www.recyclenow.com/packaging to provide information about the importance of packaging and highlight products with reduced packaging that are available on the high street.
Reductions in packaging through lightweighting and the inclusion of recycled content are happening in the UK grocery sector through support of the Courtauld Commitment, but many of these changes are not obvious to the consumer. The new section on recyclenow.com solves this problem. The site informs consumers about packaging developments and explains how packaging is changing.
Recyclenow.com receives over 180,000 visits per month and provides information and advice on recycling. Commenting on the launch of the new packaging design area of the website, Charlotte Henderson, Retail Supply Chain Programme Manager at WRAP said: “It is really important that consumers are made aware of the environmental improvements that brand owners, retailers and their supply chain are making and that packaging also protects the product. Consumers can choose products which use less packaging and/or recycled content when they shop. By highlighting optimised packaging, WRAP is demonstrating the options that are available on shelf and showing that the retail sector continues to listen to consumers’ concerns.”
The new area on recyclenow.com will help consumers to reduce their carbon footprint. The information it provides on packaging reduction will help consumers make a difference to the environment through their purchasing decisions, making packaging waste reduction a part of everyday life.
