Dr Liz Goodwin Appointed as New CEO of National Recycling Body
13 April 2007
The board of WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) announced today that Dr Liz Goodwin has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of WRAP with immediate effect.
Dr Goodwin joined the company in 2001 as Director of Materials, heading up a number of core WRAP programmes focused on overcoming market barriers and boosting the UK’s reprocessing capacity. Instrumental in restructuring WRAP’s activities to meet the changing needs of the sectors with which it engages, Dr Goodwin moved on to become Director of Construction & Manufacturing in 2006. She has also been acting as interim CEO since the departure of Jennie Price last month.
Making the announcement, Chairman of WRAP, Vic Cocker, said: “Following a comprehensive recruitment process, I am delighted to confirm that the WRAP Board has appointed Dr Liz Goodwin as CEO. Liz has an outstanding record of achievement and we have every confidence that she will build on the strengths and capabilities of WRAP and its team.
“The issues of recycling and resource efficiency, and the contribution that WRAP and its partners can make to tackling climate change, are more important than ever. I know that Liz has the skills and commitment to make a substantial impact on this crucial part of the UK’s environmental agenda.”
Dr Goodwin said: “I am delighted to have been offered this opportunity to lead WRAP, building on the achievements of the last seven years. Environmental issues have never before been so high on the agenda and we need to capitalize on this awareness and interest and convert it into action that has a significant impact.
“I am keen to work with our partners in all sectors to ensure that the role of recycling and materials resource efficiency is well understood so that we can continue to make real progress.”

Editor's notes:
- WRAP works in partnership to encourage and enable businesses and consumers to be more efficient in their use of materials and recycle more things more often. This helps to minimise landfill, reduce carbon emissions and improve our environment.
- Established as a not-for-profit company in 2000, WRAP is backed by Government funding from Defra and the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
- Working in seven key areas (Construction, Retail, Manufacturing, Organics, Business Growth, Behavioural Change, and Local Authority Support), WRAP’s work focuses on market development and support to drive forward recycling and materials resource efficiency within these sectors, as well as wider communications and awareness activities including the multi-media national Recycle Now campaign for England.
