Aims
This course aims to enable delegates to develop a waste prevention strategy that will guide the planning and delivery of efficient waste prevention activities.
Target audience
The course is targeted at individuals with responsibility for developing/delivering a waste prevention strategy.
We recommend that following attendance on ‘Waste prevention: a strategic approach’ and the development of a local authority strategy an officer from the local authority attends the new ‘Waste prevention: planning and delivery’ course.
The ‘Waste prevention: planning and delivery’ course is designed to enable delegates to use the WRAP Waste Prevention Toolkit to develop an action plan for delivery of waste prevention activities.
Duration
1.5 days residential (Day 1 - 16:00 to Day 2 - 17:00).
Level
Masters Level (NVQ equivalent 7).
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to:
- critically evaluate the role of waste prevention in sustainable wastes management strategies;
- identify and appraise the barriers to waste prevention for household waste at source;
- critically analyse the role of local authorities and partners in promoting waste prevention;
- critically evaluate the applicability of a range of waste prevention options, techniques and tools;
- ascertain and evaluate approaches that have been developed to monitor and measure the impacts of waste prevention; and
- demonstrate a critical understanding of research outcomes pertaining to pro-environmental behaviour in formulating waste prevention strategies.
Pre-course work
Delegates are required to undertake preparation prior to attending the Waste prevention; a strategic approach course - see course outline for further details.
Work-based report
Delegates are required to complete one work-based report and submit this within 3 months of course attendance - see course outline for further details.
Accreditation
This course is accredited by CIWM.
The course and work based report may contribute two days towards a Graduate’s structured Education & Training Programme or 12 hours towards CPD.
Six months free Affiliate Membership is available to delegates who are not already members of CIWM.
