This course enables delegates to establish the performance of current recycling collection schemes for schools, review the schemes, plan and implement improvements that will increase the efficiency and sustain the improved performance of the schemes by planned communication with the schools.

Aims

This course enables delegates to establish the performance of current recycling collection schemes for schools, review the schemes, plan and implement improvements that will increase the efficiency and sustain the improved performance of the schemes by planned communication with the schools.

Target audience

The course is targeted at individuals with responsibility for delivering an efficient schools recycling collection scheme and/or communicating with schools.  Delegates who work for authorities who are not currently operating a scheme will also find the course relevant.

Before attending WRAP’s ‘Schools recycling schemes: improving performance’ course we recommend that delegates attend the Recycling Managers Training Course - Phase 1 (Standard).

Duration

1.5 days residential (Day 1: 14.00 to Day 2: 16:00).

Masters Level (NVQ equivalent 7)

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Identify key data and information required for planning and delivering improvements to a recycling collection scheme for schools.
  • Collect appropriate data for monitoring the performance of the current scheme.
  • Use the data to evaluate the performance of the current scheme and the effectiveness of current communications with schools.
  • Identify the target audience(s) and their communications needs, the types of messages that may be needed and different communications methods and techniques to be used.
  • Distinguish between aspects of the performance that may be improved through operational changes or improved communications.
  • Identify operational improvements to a recycling scheme for schools  OR
  • identify improvements to the communications with schools and communicate opportunities for scheme improvements to colleagues responsible for operations.
  • Develop an action plan to include monitoring and evaluation for improving and sustaining the scheme OR the communications.

Delegates are required to undertake preparation prior to attending the course - see course outline for further details.  

Work-based report 

Delegates are required to complete one work-based report and submit this within 3 months of course attendance - see course outline for further details.

Accreditation

This course is awaiting accreditation by CIWM

We anticipate:

The course and work based report may contribute two days towards a Graduate’s Structured Education & Training Programme or 12 hours towards CPD.

Six months free Affiliate Membership is available to delegates who are not already members of CIWM.
