Aims

This course aims to enable delegates to review services to evaluate performance, identify improvements and deliver an efficient recycling service.

Target audience

The course is targeted at individuals who have experience in recycling service design and delivery, and are seeking an understanding of how to improve service efficiency.

We anticipate that you will have three or more years experience in recycling prior to attending this course.

Masters Level (NVQ-equivalent 7)

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this module delegates will be able to:

  • Identify and critically evaluate the key factors that influence the efficiency of systems for the collection of recyclable materials, organic wastes, and residual wastes;    
  • Identify the different waste streams, calculate potential dry recyclable and organic waste volumes & realistically forecast potential capture rates;
  • Evaluate the performance of recycling collection schemes and identify the system features that impact upon it.
  • Identify the main drivers for more efficient waste and recycling collection services and assess the implications for their own local authority;
  • Identify and recommend system improvements that will increase the efficiency and performance of recycling collection schemes;
  • Demonstrate that the recommended improvements will increase service efficiency; and
  • Identify and anticipate potential risks to the planning and implementation of new and/or extended collection services and prepare contingency plans.

Pre-course work

Delegates are required to undertake preparation prior to attending the course - see course outline for further details.  

Work-based report

Delegates are required to complete one work-based report and submit this within 3 months of course attendance - see course outline for further details.

Accreditation

CIWM
The course and work based report may contribute three days towards a Graduate’s Structured Education & Training Programme or 18 hours towards CPD.
Six months free Affiliate Membership is available to delegates who are not already members of CIWM.
