Developing food waste collections

Aims

This workshop aims to disseminate information, plus best available data, from the latest research findings on food waste prevention, collection, processing techniques and end use and improve cost efficiencies, participation rates and the quality of materials collected.

 

Target Audience

Individuals from local authorities, private and third sector organisations with responsibility for implementing and improving food waste collections.

We anticipate that you will have two or more years experience in managing recycling schemes prior to attending this workshop.

Structure 

1 day non residential (9.30 - 16.30)

Learning Outcomes

  • appreciate the drivers for food waste collections;
  • consider the implications of the latest research on:
  • the public attitudes to food waste recycling and prevention;
  • key messages for communicating a food waste collection scheme;
  • recognising performance and resource requirements
  • identifying the key options and methods for improving efficiency, maximising performance and reducing cost of services;
  • evaluate the options available for collection of food wastes;
  • plan and implement new services efficiently;
  • identify the effect various collection options have for reprocessors of food waste;
  • understand food waste recycling technologies and their relative costs;
  • appreciate the range and limitations of potential end use markets for compost and digestates: and
  • appreciate the need for quality products and the key requirements of PAS100 and PAS110.
