Evaluating the impact of our work is important. It helps us account to our funders and show we have spent money wisely. And as a publicly-funded organisation it is crucial that we are honest about our impacts.
We have five principles which guide us when evaluating our impact:
- Impact evaluation should be arms’ length and evidence-based
- Impacts should only be reported where we are responsible for them
- Impacts should be reported on a ‘per annum’ and a lifetime basis
- Impacts won’t be double counted
- Impacts should be measured for each nation of the UK separately
We report publicly on our impacts at the end of each business plan period. In between we carry out annual impact assessments and verification exercises to check whether our programmes are on track to deliver against their targets. Results are shared with our funders. In addition we provide our funders with a quarterly progress report that includes estimates of progress against targets.
