Research Analyst – Maternity Cover (temporary 11 month fixed term contract)

Summary:

Provide analytical, research and evaluation support to WRAP departments to enable them to develop their work streams effectively, monitor progress towards Business Plan targets and help in the identification of further interventions towards the achievement of WRAP targets.

Job description

  • Commission and project manage external consultancies and advisers in research and evaluation.
  • Provide technical and analytical input into WRAP commissioned research and data collection and provide follow-through so that the best use is made of research findings.
  • Provide advice on data capture, data interpretation and information to underpin waste/resource policy issues to WRAP departments.
  • Obtain relevant external data and information to inform WRAP work programmes.
  • Identify areas where further research or other interventions would assist relevant WRAP departments in reaching Business Plan targets.
  • Contribute to external and WRAP organised conferences, seminars, reports and other publications as appropriate.
    Ensure that all projects are carried out in accordance with WRAP procedures.
  • Work with others in WRAP to ensure shared learning and maximum effectiveness of activities.
  • Undertake other related tasks as may be determined from time to time by the Evaluation Manager and the Director of Finance and Evaluation

Key Requirements and Personal Profile

Education and experience - essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a discipline involving numerical skills or research methods application.
  • A strong background in a discipline involving a range of research-based and numerical skills (e.g. statistics, market or social research, economics).
  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Experience of using Access (programmer level expertise is not required).
  • Sound project management skills and an ability to balance a complex mix of priorities.
  • Good communication skills – verbal and written – with experience of writing clear technical reports and other publications.
  • Strong interdisciplinary and team working skills, with high levels of self motivation

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline; formal research methods training would be a definite advantage.
  • Theoretical and/or applied knowledge of evaluation theory.
  • Experience or knowledge of the waste/resource management sector.
  • Experience of using SPSS.
  • Knowledge and experience of statistical analysis methods e.g. significance testing, regression analysis and sampling theory (note that this would not be used on a day-to-day basis).
  • Personal commitment to environmental protection
