Summary:
WRAP is supporting the construction sector in using resources more efficiently and reducing waste, thereby helping the sector achieve the Government-industry target to halve construction, demolition and excavation waste (CDEW) going to landfill by 2012. The Construction Programme is engaging with construction clients, their contractors and supply chains to encourage the adoption and implementation of good practice in reducing waste, recycling more and increasing the use of recycled and recovered materials.Job description
Working in the Designers & Contractors team, the Project Manager will predominantly focus on contractors and their subcontractors, including trades and smaller builders. The role will involve direct engagement, making the case for change, identifying what actions they can take to reduce waste and cut costs, and managing projects that provide practical help plus supporting tools and information (delivered through WRAP’s framework consultants). The work requires close cooperation with teams within WRAP which target other parts of the construction supply chain.
Main Functions
- Build relationships with the target audiences: construction contractors at all levels in the supply chain, including subcontractors, trades and representative small builders, and their relevant trade and sector bodies, to ensure their buy-in and support for Halving Waste to Landfill.
- Represent WRAP and present our messages in meetings with construction contractors and their supply chains, partner organisations, other stakeholders and WRAP framework consultants as appropriate.
- Develop and deliver specific WRAP projects to provide appropriate responses to the resource efficiency needs of the target audiences. This will involve specifying and commissioning work from WRAP’s framework consultants, day-to-day management of projects, including budget control and reporting, and coordination of activities with others in WRAP. The projects include: engagement with construction contractors and their supply chains to advocate waste to landfill commitments; support for implementing the actions required; demonstration projects with exemplar organisations; preparation and delivery of workshops; PR and marketing activities; and the development and publication of guidance, web-based tools and training packages.
- Provide technical and research outputs for the Construction Programme, which includes reviewing technical reports and tenders, desk research, and data management and analysis.
- Work with others in the Construction team to identify and manage joint projects and activities that will maximise the impact of the Programme, increase the effectiveness of our messages and actions and will ensure best practice and learning is shared across the team.
- Contribute to external and WRAP-organised conferences, seminars, workshops, presentations, networking opportunities, other events and publications as necessary – collaborating across the Construction and Communications teams.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Designers & Contractors team strategy and planning.
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with the aims and objectives of WRAP and are in line with the principles and operating parameters of the organisation.
- Undertake other related activities as may be determined from time to time by the Programme Manager – Designers & Contractors and the Head of Construction.
