Starpack 2008

WRAP has been sponsoring the Starpack Awards since 2005, and is the lead sponsor of this years’ Starpack  awards and summit, bringing sustainability to the top of the agenda for the packaging industry.

WRAP’s retail team is supporting the awards and summit to highlight its role as a catalyst for change, working with the retail supply chain to reduce the amount of food and packaging waste.

 

We are delighted to announce the winners of this years’ Environment Award, which was split into two categories due to the high number of quality entrants.

 

Starpack Summit

On the same day as the Starpack Awards ceremony, IOP: The Packaging Society hosted a successful all-day summit entitled 'The Packaging Dilemma - The Consumer Challenge'. 

Key speakers spoke on stratetic insight into consumer led packaging dilemmas and possible solutions.  WRAP's Head of Retail Programmes, Andy Dawe and Special Advisor Mark Barthel spoke on the day regarding:

  • Packaging and the real waste dilemma?, and
  • the role of packaging in reducing food waste.

Gold Award : Ardagh Glass for the ultra lightweight Coca Cola glass bottle

Silver Award: Artemius PET Packaging for the 75cl PET wine bottle

Bronze Award: Sharp Interpack for the  rPET meat trays

Silver Award: 2 Sisters Group for the Tesco FormShrink™ Whole Chicken Pack

 

Student Starpack

 

Andy DaweWRAP are also sponsors of this years Student Starpack Awards. in partnership with Marks & Spencer. Students were asked to design new sustainable packaging for the M&S Premium Biscuit Assortment Range. This years’ winner is Gavin Boyle from University College, Falmouth.

 

WRAP’s head of retail programmes Andy Dawe said:  “This pack proves that less really can be more. Use of a single material makes it easier for consumer to recycle, and it achieves premium branding via effective print and delightful graphics".
