PET Bottle Lightweighting

WRAP held a seminar entitled 'Next steps in PET bottle lightweighting' in conjunction with Nextek in June 2007.

The day was well attended with over 60 delegates from the retail plastic packaging supply chain from:

  • bottle and cap manufacturers;
  • bottle fillers and resin suppliers;
  • machinery manufacturers; 
  • mould makers;
  • retailers; and
  • brand owners.

Key industry speakers from Husky, SIG, Eastman, Bericap and Nextek presented on the latest technology in PET lightweighting covering:

  • advances in preform manufacturer, bottle design, resins and necks/closures;
  • brand owner perspective;
  • case studies of lightweighting projects; and
  • future innovations.

There were a series of breakout groups to explore the next steps in working towards substantial packaging reductions within the industry.
