Materials

Understanding which materials to use for packaging can be a challenging area and require considerable research.

We have recently held conferences with key industry players at a series of roundtables and the presentations from the workshops are becoming available.

These are complex issues and specialist industry work groups will be defined to take the lead in shaping the way ahead. The areas that have been covered to date are:

Recycled PET (rPET)

WRAP hosted the UK’s first rPET packaging conference in February 2007 – the day attracted more than 200 people – and put the spotlight on the business advantages of using recycled PET, available and future technology, regulation and legislation, material supply of food grade PET and consumer perceptions. Find out more about the day and download the presentations.

Biopolymers

There is a lot of confusion about these types of materials and WRAP has undertaken research to clarify consumer understanding of biopolymers and also issued a statement to communicate its viewpoint.

In March 2007, WRAP and the Green Alliance hosted an industry workshop about biodegradable and compostable packaging – ‘getting it right’. The presentations given at this event are available to download.
