GlassRite Projects
The GlassRite projects cover:
GlassRite follows the success of previous WRAP-funded glass lightweight trials, which helped launch several groundbreaking designs, including a lightweight 300ml Grolsch beer bottle and 70cl generic spirits bottles.
WRAP's work has shown that further significant financial, distribution and carbon savings can be made by lightweighting glass containers in the food and drinks sectors. Whether this is through removing 10% weight from containers or encouraging a step change in container design.
The GlassRite projects are about encouraging retailers, brand owners, packer-fillers and manufacturers to use and/or develop lighter glass containers in a number of sectors.
WRAP to this end is funding work in the wine, beer, cider, spirits, ready to drink (RTD), soft drinks and food sectors. These projects aim to:
· Reduce the amount of glass entering the UK waste stream, and
· Improve the industry’s carbon emissions profile.
The projects are large-scale demonstrations of commercial viability and opportunities available to:
· The wine industry via bulk importation, lightweighting and glass colour choice,
· The drinks and food industry via lightweighting and rationalisation of glass containers.
