A report looking at opportunities for glass lightweighting in the international sparkling wine sector, including a case study on Champagne.

The UK consumes around 72 million litres of Champagne and sparkling wine each year.  The glass bottles associated with this consumption total 81,000 tonnes of glass, which is equivalent to 466 jumbo jets in weight.  This research suggests that if these bottles were moved to a lighter weight, 9,270 tonnes of glass could be saved from the UK waste stream - the equivalent of 7,231 tonnes of CO2.
