Introduction

This section of the data portal provides a summary of developments in the UK’s recovered glass market.  The data presented here comes from respected, publicly available and regularly updated sources on the internet.  By following the links above the graphics, you can find out more details on the source of the data and visit the sites to access the full data.

The current highlights and trends are: 

• Cullet prices, of all grades have been stable between December 2011 and January 2012. Amber cullet prices are £2 per tonne higher than January 2011 at £23.50 per tonne while mixed cullet prices are £3 per tonne lower than January 2011 at £7.50 per tonne.

• Exports of cullet totalled 28kt in November 2011, up 15kt from October 2011 and 25kt from November 2010.

• Around 440kt of glass packaging was reprocessed in 2011Q3 unchanged from 2011Q2 but down 34kt from 2010Q3. UK glass reprocessing totalled 372kt in 2011Q3, down 17kt from year earlier levels.

• Glass PRN prices averaged £10.50 per tonne in January 2012, up from £8.50 per tonne in December but broadly unchanged from January 2011.

Recovered glass container prices

Prices shown are for tonnages of container glass delivered to a reprocessor or port.  The price for mixed glass reflects the sum that may be paid at the weighbridge by the aggregates sector and some glass industry recyclers for the mixed material.

Figures represent the tonnages of total waste received by UK reprocessors or exporters including the packaging waste element. Data is provided by accredited UK PRN processors and exporters.
