This course aims to provide delegates with the necessary knowledge and understanding to enable them to:
- Develop a commercial recycling collection service for SMEs – dry recyclables and food waste
- Recruit customers to the service(s)
- Improve the performance of the service(s) in terms of cost, increased material capture and improved customer satisfaction

Target Audience
This workshop targets local authority trade waste officers and supervisors who are considering or are in the process of developing new trade recycling services or improving the efficiency and/or customer base of current services.
These materials have been updated since running this course between April 2010 and Feb 2011 to include latest information including WRAPs research into co-collecting household and commercial waste/recycling on the same vehicle as key well as legislative changes. It is recommended that people who attended this course earlier than March 2011 read WRAPs latest guidance and contact us for any clarity and/or send other relevant team members who were not able to previously attend.

- Drivers for local authorities to develop trade recycling services
- Drivers for SMEs to recycle at work
- Barriers to SME recycling and how to overcome them
- The optimum starting position to developing trade recycling services
- Tonnage apprtionment/average weights
- Costing and charging
- Collection options – Co-mingled vs source separated, dedicated vs co-collection rounds
- Sales and marketing strategies
- Monitoring and evaluation
