The South West region consists of the following counties:

• Devon;
• Dorset;
• Somerset;
• Wiltshire;
• Gloucestershire; and the
• Isles of Scilly.
  

The South West is a predominantly rural region but with some larger urban areas such as Bristol and Bournemouth.

Key Sectors

The economy of the South West has performed well in recent years.

Key sectors include:

• aerospace,
• food and drink, 
• tourism, and
• environmental technologies especially renewable energy and waste.

Regional Development Agency

The South West of England Regional Development Agency (South West RDA) is charged with improving the regional economy.

Among the economic sectors it has prioritised are environmental technologies and construction - which have potential links to recycling.
