    The region has a strong service sector. Although there are fewer large cities than most other regions, it has one of the country’s fastest-growing economies.

    Regional Development Agency

    The East of England Development Agency is responsible for improving economic performance. One of its goals is the efficient use of resources.

    The region is a major user of energy and water and the large amount of waste it produces is forecast to rise.

    The UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development (UKCEED) are currently leading a market development plan for the environmental sector.

    Regional Economic Strategy

    The Regional Economic Strategy (RES) aims to build on the region’s strengths including:

    • science and innovation (it has the highest proportion of its population involved in R&D of any UK region),
    • the region’s role as an international gateway, and
    • its landscapes and environmental assets.

    The region hosts over 2,100 environmental goods & services businesses and organisations, more than any other region in the UK.
