Uses of glass for water filtration in swimming pools

The filtration system in a swimming pool is perhaps the most important element of the pool's public health obligations. Responsible for controlling bacteria and fungi, any drop in filter performance can lead to dire, and often immediate, results.

Sand filters have been shown to clog easily, often leading to increased use of chlorine and other chemicals as a secondary control mechanism. Failures tend to be very high profile, and of obvious concern to all.

The use of Active Filter Media (AFM) recycled glass filter media in several pools has proven to be highly successful. AFM comfortably outperforms sand, and provides users with a quick return on investment.

Main benefits:

  • Lifecycle payback within 12 months.
  • Reduced filter clogging, leading to reduced frequency of "backwashing".
  • Improved filter performance, leading to reduced energy costs and reduced consumption of treatment chemicals.
