Drinking water
In recent years, water industry services have been firmly in the public spotlight. Under increasing pressure to deliver value for money, water companies are constantly striving to improve performance.
Filtration of incoming water, to remove contaminants, is essenital to the treatment of drinking water. A common problem is the "biofouling" of sand filters (where the media becomes clogged with bacteria), leading to poor filter performance and water quality.
Trials using Active Filter Media (AFM) recycled glass filter media, in place of sand, have demonstrated a 30% improvement in filter performance - realising significant benefits in environmental health, water quality and cost effectiveness.
It should be noted that any media used in the production of drinking water requires approval from the Drinking Water Inspectorate (or The Water Service in Northern Ireland). Please check with the recycled glass supplier that the media concerned has the relevant approval.
Main benefits:
- Resistant to biofouling - increased service life.
- Improved flow rates - better overall filter performance.
- Much better 'backwash' efficiency - stable and predictable.
