Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)
DEFRA is the government department concerned with the environment, waste and recycling. It provides specific support to Local Authorities through its Local Authority Support Unit and offers funding through ithe Waste Performance and Efficiency Grant and the Waste Minimisation and Recycling Fund.

Chartered Institiution of Wastes Management
The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) is the professional body which represents over 6,000 waste management professionals. The CIWM sets the professional standards for individuals working in the waste management industry and has various grades of membership. Through its commercial subsidiary, IWM Business Services Limited, the Institution provides conference, exhibition, training and technical publication services to the industry.

Community Recycling Network
The CRN promotes community waste management in the UK. It produces a newsletter, provides member links and a bulletin board, holds seminars and an annual conference and has several regional networks.

Waste Watch promotes and encourages action on the 3Rs - waste reduction, reuse and recycling. It works with community organisations, local and national government encouraging the environmental benefits of waste minimisation and recycling. London Recycling Fund
The London Recycling Fund was established in early 2002 and began operation in May 2002. Since then over 70 grants have been made, allocating £24.9 million to a range of recycling and waste minimisation projects. The strategy of the Fund has always been to encourage additional investment by applicants and their partners.

Waste Information Network (WIN) provides up to date information on all aspects of waste management . It is particularly useful for local authorities. Key aspects include a Document Library containing hundreds of reviewed waste management reports; a Guidance and Best Practice section with case studies, strategies, toolkits and guidance and a Procurement section with guidance on contracts, joint working and procurement efficiencies. Users need to register to view the site.
