NRWF Household Waste Prevention Toolkit

NRWF Household Waste Prevention Toolkit

Overall Summary

This Toolkit was prepared by the NRWF following extensive consultation.  WRAP is hosting the toolkit in order to make it widely available.  The advice and opinions contained within it are those of the NRWF and all those who contributed to it.  It was completed in August 2004 and a number of sections were updated in July 2006.

Introduction

This Toolkit is designed to provide guidance to local authorities and community organisations in developing and implementing waste prevention strategies at a local level.

Similar household waste prevention guidance has been produced by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency and is available from: http://www.sepa.org.uk

This toolkit is intended to help you to develop and implement effective programmes for preventing household waste.

Containing easy-to-use, practical advice and guidance on the options available and the steps needed to achieve success, it:

  • Describes the environmental, economic and social benefits resulting from well-managed waste prevention initiatives.
  • Outlines how initiatives can be set up and their impact measured.
  • Focuses on specific, proven approaches to waste prevention.
  • Explains how to ensure local households respond positively.

Incorporating tips, checklists and examples of good practice, this toolkit will help you deliver realistic, successful waste prevention programmes in your area.
