Kerbside Analysis Toolkit

The Kerbside Analysis Tool (KAT) allows local authorities to review the efficiency of their current waste and kerbside recycling collections and is used to forecast the likely performance and cost of potential changes to the service.

KAT is a model created in Microsoft Excel that enables projections of resource requirements and associated costs for the implementation of different kerbside recycling recycling and composting collections within a local authority. It enables local authorities to understand the total costs of managing the kerbside waste collection and the impact of the diversion of waste streams.

It can be used to:

  • Help evaluate elements of efficiency in the service and review options for improvement;
  • Establish the resources required for different collection systems;
  • Establish the relative costs of implementing different collection systems;
  • Provide efficient and comprehensive options appraisal.

If you would like to discuss whether KAT modelling would be suitable for your authority please contact WRAP's ROTATE team.  The model and guidance documents are available on request from ROTATE.
