Retail drop-off trials

This trial allows householders to drop-off their used and unwanted batteries into special containers placed in 33 retail stores across three areas:

  • Swansea;
  • Eastleigh (Southampton); and
  • Perth and Kinross.

In October 2006, collections began in 11 stores in Swansea and 13 stores in Eastleigh.  In March 2007, nine stores in Perth and Kinross started collections.

The following retail chains are taking part in the trial:

  • Home Retail Group plc (Argos and Homebase);
  • B&Q plc;
  • DSG International (Currys, Currys Digital and PC World); and
  • Tesco plc.

It is estimated that the scheme is accessible to 200,000 households and just under 477,000 residents.
