Existing food waste collections:
2,400 households in Berrylands Refuse and Recycling Trial, food waste collected weekly.
Existing garden waste collection:
Collected weekly in re-useable jute bags. Service costs £35 for a year’s worth of collection. There is a reduced charge of £20 for residents who are disabled or receive a state retirement pension.
Refuse Collection – frequency and containers used:
The council collects household refuse weekly from residential properties (houses, conversions/bed sits, flats) who choose to either put their waste out for collection in a dustbin or plastic sack, some flats and housing estates also have access to 1,100L containers.
The Berrylands Refuse and Recycling Trial started on 2 March 2007 with 2,107 households provided with a 140 litre bin and 293 households provided with a 240 litre bin for residual waste that is collected fortnightly.
Recycling Collection – frequency and containers used:
42,800 households with fortnightly 55L green box collection (glass, plastic bottles, textiles, paper and tins/cans) and green waste.
6,000 flats with weekly orange sack collection (glass, paper, plastics and tins/cans and food waste).
6,900 flats are serviced by bins for paper and/or cardboard recycling.
2,400 households in Berrylands Trial with weekly green box collection, cardboard and food waste.
