Trial update phase 2 (up to 26th of May 2006)

The second evaluation period took place between 29th April – 26th of May. We received 11 evaluation responses out of 12 partners.

More data was collected in this evaluation phase as 10 out of the 12 partners have started collecting batteries from householders!

What about the 2 partners remainaing?

Aberdeenshire will start collecting at the end of May while Harlow is on a three monthly cycle and will start their first collection in 2 months.

    Tonnages, tonnages, tonnages...

    In general, partners have been pleased with the quantity of batteries collected, which have exceeded expectations.

    ‘The amount of batteries collected and householders participating in the scheme is higher than initially anticipated.’

    ‘we have collected more batteries than we anticipated, and greater quantities have been collected in the second month than the first’.

    Householders feedback

    Householders are pleased to be part of the trials and many residents want to get involved

    • We have had some telephone calls saying what a good idea the scheme was and a couple of residents asking for additional boxes’
    • 'People been saving batteries up and happy about the fact we are doing it’
    • 'Residents who are not part of this project are keen to also recycle batteries'

    Crews feedback

    The schemes are running generally well

    • 'All observations are that the scheme has been well received and is running well so far’.
    • ‘Crews have confirmed that the collections are going well with many households participating’
    • ‘sorting is straightforward due to the containment and collection processes. 

    3 partners have encountered some problems with householders not sealing the envelopes properly or placing loose batteries in kerbside boxes making it difficult for the crews to find them.

    WRAP is looking at this issue and will keep you in the loop with the findings and recommendations.

    Communication and marketing

    Many communication channels have been used. We have had a lot of TV, radio and press coverage.
