Battery chemistry groups - first results

Did you know that there are more than 16 different battery chemistries?
The early results (see graph below) show that more than 90% of batteries collected are of the alkaline/zinc carbon types. These are general purpose batteries and are used in appliances such as torches, clocks, toys, personal stereos, minidisk play, etc. The higher level than expected of Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) batteries, the older style of rechargeable batteries, probably reflects that householders have hoarded these batteries rather than simply throwing them away.
