Working with Schools

Bench in a school playground

WRAP's schools programme aims to improve and sustain the recycling of school waste.

WRAP provides the following resources for local authorities and schools to support this aim:

For local authorities:

  • Recycling in schools training course
This course is aimed at individuals with responsibility for developing and, or delivering recycling collections to schools. It encourages a practical approach to planning, implementing and maintaining recycling schemes in schools that will contribute to the achievement of local authority strategic recycling aims.

For schools:

  • Recycle Now Action Pack for schools
The action pack provides information and advice for primary and secondary schools to guide them through the process of setting up and maintaining effective recycling schemes. It also includes activities to engage pupils, case studies to share schools' experiences of recycling and links to teaching resources which schools can access.
  • Recycle Now marketing materials for schools
A range of materials have been developed to support recycling schemes at schools, including a range of awareness posters designed to engage primary school pupils, secondary schools pupils and school staff, and recycling point signage for use inside the school as well as outdoors.
  • Recycler primary schools programme
Our primary schools programme is based around "Recycler" the rapping robot.  Recycler is a state-of-the-art robot which visits primary schools to communicate the recycling message in a fun, interactive show.  There are also a range of support materials available to enable children to consolidate and expand on what they learn from the show. Local authorities can book Recycler to spend a week working with primary schools in their area.
