We encourage people to purchase compost bins at a subsidised price and to compost as much of their kitchen and garden waste as possible, as often as possible.
Throughout 2007 we will be working with a total of 112 selected partners throughout England and Scotland and targeting a total of over 20 million households with a comprehensive marketing and PR campaign (under the Recycle Now brand in England and the Waste Aware Scotland brand in Scotland) to promote the benefits of home composting and to drive bin sales.
In August 2006 we were delighted to announce that we had achieved the one millionth bin sale.
The WRAP programme includes:
- working with partners to promote the sale of subsidised bins in their area;
- promoting home composting as a viable and easy way to divert waste from landfill;
- encouraging householders to compost more stuff more often;
- providing advice and support for all householders engaged in home composting, via support literature, a dedicated helpline (0845 600 0323), a website and a team of Home Compost Advisors in the field; and
- working with our partners and key stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme and establishing a model for estimating the diversion rate of organic waste (per household) attributable to home composting.
