The project has worked with the wine supply chain and glass manufacturing sector to deliver glass waste and carbon emission savings through a series of glass lightweighting and bulk importation initiatives.
The project, over phase II, has contributed CO2 savings of over 22,904 tonnes per annum by:
Increasing bulk importation of wine for UK filling by 111.2 million glass 75cl equivalent bottles which, has in turn increased the use of cullet in UK wine bottle manufacture by 20,365 tonnes per annum; and
Reducing glass packaging for wine by 15,651 tonnes per annum due to lightweighting.
