The current highlights and trends are:


Recovered paper prices 

News & PAM prices have recovered in the past few months and currently stand at around £105 per tonne, similar to prices at the start of the year.  OCC also saw improvement and prices had risen to £110 per tonne in September.  Mixed paper and board prices have risen over the past few months from around £10 per tonne to£30-40 per tonne per tonne. . 


UK / Trade  

UK exports of recovered paper stood at 342kt in July 2018, around 20kt less than levels seen 12 months prior. Exports have fluctuated throughout the year, peaking   at 438kt in March 2018. 

UK mill usage of recovered paper was estimated at 312kt in July  2018, 30kt less than usage seen 12 months previously.


Paper PRN prices

Paper PRN prices traded at just under £16 per tonne in June 2018. They have seen substantial growth over the past few months, having started the year at £1.50 per tonne. 


Paper packaging recycling totalled 241kt in Q3 2018, a decrease of around 40kt on the previous quarter and almost 34kt less than the same quarter the previous year. Exports of paper packaging  fell by around 50kt to 142kt    between the second and third quarters of 2018 while UK reprocessing was broadly stable at around 95-99kt.



Pulp prices continued to rise, reaching £955 per tonne in early September
