The current highlights and trends are:

Recovered paper prices 

News & PAM prices have fluctuated during 2017, averaging around £102 per tonne.   OCC prices have also been variable, averaging around £111 per tonne during 2017.  Mixed paper and board prices have declined rapidly in the last few weeks to around £50 per tonne, having varied greatly throughout the year. The average price during 2017 so far is £75 per tonne. 


UK / Trade  

UK exports of recovered paper reached 396kt in November 2017, similar to levels seen 12 months prior. Exports have fluctuated throughout the year, peaking   at 437kt in December 2017. 

UK mill usage of recovered paper was estimated at 230kt in October 2017, matching usage seen in October 2016.


Paper PRN prices

Paper PRN prices reached £1.85 per tonne in November 2017, the highest price seen since April 2016. 

Total paper packaging recycling totalled 922kt in Q3 2017, an increase of 32kt on the previous quarter and 80kt less than the same quarter of the previous year. Exports of paper packaging  increased by 29kt to 586kt while UK reprocessing rose to 336kt.



Pulp prices have been buoyant over the past 6 months, reaching £746 per tonne in December. The average price during 2017 has been £681 per tonne.
