MRF costing tool

The costing tool assists local authorities and other organisations in the planning and delivery of cost effective sorting schemes for dry recyclables.

It is a processing costing tool that allows the total costs of sorting and bulking dry recyclables to be determined and to enable direct comparisons to be made between the costs of different approaches to sorting dry recyclables.  There are two costing tools that replicate the two designs of MRFs: one capable of sorting fully co-mingled input materials and the second, a two stream mixture of fibres and containers. Both models are available on request from WRAP's Collections and Quality Team.

There is a user guide to accompany the tool and to request the tool, please email your request to WRAP's Collections and Quality Team.

The MRF Costing Tool together with the Kerbside Analysis Tool (KAT) enables local authorities to understand the total costs of managing the collection, bulking and sorting of dry recyclables and the relative costs of different systems.  The Kerbside Analysis Tool (KAT) allows local authorities to assess the infrastructure and costs for a wide range of different kerbside collection systems.
