Food Waste Reduction Fund: now accepting Expressions of Interest

Closing date:
11 May, 2018

WRAP is delighted to announce that we are now accepting Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the Food Waste Reduction Fund.

This £500,000 fund is provided by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The aim of the Fund is to help avoid surplus food produced by food businesses from becoming waste, by enabling Not-for-Profit (NfP) organisations across England to redistribute more of this food to people in need.

To be eligible, NfP’s applying will need to demonstrate they plan to work in partnership with food businesses such as retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, food service and logistics companies.

The programme will award grants ranging in value from £20,000 to £75,000 for new projects that can be piloted and evaluated and, if successful, can then be replicated and implemented more widely.

EOIs should propose a method of increasing quantities of surplus food redistributed that would otherwise not happen without this funding, for example by involving businesses who are new to redistribution, accessing more food from businesses who already redistribute some surpluses, making increased use of food logistics companies, or tackling a specific barrier.

How the Fund works

The fund is open to NfP organisations who supply surplus food from food businesses either directly to those in need, or to other organisations who do the same.  A guidance document details the project requirements, and should be read in full before submitting an EOI.

The application process will operate in two stages:

Stage 1 – Expression of Interest: At this stage we require an overview of the project and its potential for impact.  Email your completed EOI to us by 30 March 2018. EOIs received by the deadline will be reviewed and shortlisted by an assessment panel.

Stage 2 – Full application: NfPs with shortlisted EOIs will be invited to submit their full application during the week commencing 16 April 2018.  Those applications received by the deadline of 11 May 2018 that provide the required level of information will be reviewed by the panel on a competitive basis and awarded grant funding until the budget is expended.  Successful applicants will be notified during week commencing 28 May 2018.
