Alison Austin has considerable environment and sustainability experience from her work with Sainsbury’s as well as working as an independent sustainability consultant to major FTSE 100 companies.

Alison joined Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd in 1980. Following a number of senior management roles in Advertising and Marketing, Buying and Technical she was responsible for the company’s operational and product environment brief for eighteen years.  Sainsbury’s became the first supermarket to publish a CSR report in 1996 and embedded the principles into the business, as a result of her work.

Alison left her full-time role at Sainsbury’s in 2009 but continued to support the property side of the business on communications associated with low carbon technologies and buildings for a further four years. She continues to work with Robertsbridge, a sustainability consultancy, which she was a co-founder of and with her own consultancy business. She maintains an active interest in resource efficiency and sustainable supply chains within the food sector. Alison was awarded an OBE in 2001 in recognition of her contribution to the environment and sustainable development.
