Design detailing
A series of design details which can contribute to good materials resource efficiency.
The best opportunities for improving materials resource efficiency in construction projects occur during the design stage. Implementing these opportunities can provide significant cost savings, reductions in waste disposed to landfill, and carbon reductions.
The data sheets in this series highlight a selection of alternative design details which use less materials or can result in less waste being created than ‘standard’ details used in construction. The benefits provided by the alternative design details are quantified, and technical considerations presented.
We have also produced an evidence base report to accompany the design detail sheets.
