Materials Resource Efficiency in Regeneration
Evidence of material resource efficiency performance in demolition
Step 7 of 10 in the Materials Resource Efficiency in Regeneration process
- Parties involved:
- Client; Cost estimator; Design team; Contractor; Subcontractor
- Workstage:
- Construction
Introduction
Towards the end of the demolition stage, the project team will be able to demonstrate whether the Demolition Recovery Index (DRI) and Retained Material (RM) requirements have been met, provided that data on material quantities have been collected throughout the demolition phase. This will be used for calculating the performance of the project.
Demolition monitoring
The DRI and RM can be calculated from the data collected through the Site Waste Management Plans, as shown in the Demolition KPIs (1363 kb)
. Furthermore, the team should gather information about the level of recovery achieved at any Material Recovery Facility to which materials have been sent. Section 10 of "The efficient use of materials in regeneration projects" provides further details.
If a Site Waste Management Plan has not been developed, the following information should be used:
- for materials sent off site, waste transfer notes or other appropriate records;
- for materials retained on site, standard quantity surveying of stockpiles.
Examples of calculation of DRI and RM are set out in case studies and in Section 10 of "The efficient use of materials in regeneration projects".
