WRAP is working with in Northern Ireland to encourage and support good practice in waste minimisation and management and the use of recovered materials. With WRAP’s support, the Northern Ireland Executive was the first government in the UK to give its full commitment to sustainable construction. As a result, between 2006 and 2008, contractual requirements for waste minimisation, recycling or recycled content have been set for £100 million worth of construction projects. This has created many business opportunities throughout the construction industry supply chain, helping to boost the local economy.
WRAP has also helped to establish a North/South cross-border inter-governmental steering group addressing recycling market development and has encouraged the main utilities client and contractor group, which includes DRD Roads Service, to sign the Utility Industry Agreement.
WRAP is continuing its financial and advisory support to waste and recycling businesses, to help establish a much needed network of waste management infrastructure. Recycling and reprocessing businesses supported by WRAP in the Nation have increased their collective turnover by £5.9 million.
WRAP has developed a range of tools and resources to help all levels of the supply chain to achieve resource efficiency, all of which are freely available on the WRAP construction website.
