Site Waste Management Plans

Site Waste Management Plans are now a mandatory requirement in England on projects worth more than £300,000 in April 2008.

In addition to meeting legislation Site Waste Management Plans provide a good opportunity to address waste reduction early within the project. We have created a Template  to help you develop and implement effective Site Waste Management Plans that not only comply with legislation but help identify and deliver Good and Best Practice that in turn can realise a number of benefits including:

  • cost savings through reduced requirement for materials, disposal costs and sale of materials;
  • demonstration of good environmental performance and corporate social responsibility;
  • reduced impact on the local community and better public relationships; and
  • improved company performance allowing differentiation from competitors.

Prior to the development of this Template we ran a series of Site Waste Management Plan workshops. The workshop presentations and materials are available to download.

The introductory workshops run in 2006  run by WRAP and Envirowise aimed to demonstrate to the industry how SWMPs could help them address their waste arisings.

In 2007 a second series of advanced workshops were run aimed at moving the industry from standard practice in SWMPs to good and best.
