Costain - Commercial office building works

Costain worked with WRAP to determine the recycled content of a commercial office building which they had recently constructed in Bracknell. Discussion with subcontractors and suppliers identified actual practice, which was 22% and showed that significantly better results (30%) could have been achieved at no extra cost using readily available materials.

Key results

An 8% increase in recycled content could have been achieved on this project through better informed selection of common building products, at no extra cost.
The results indicate that 10% recycled content is easy to achieve in similar projects; and higher levels can be achieved with no performance or cost penalty.
