Analyses of two typical refurbishment projects were carried out with Barclays Bank. Reuse of materials resulted in financial savings and opportunities were identified for both projects to increase the overall recycled content while remaining cost neutral.

    Key results

  • It is possible to increase reused and recycled content to around 30% in commercial refurbishment through product substitution.
  • Reused materials can make significant contributions to overall recycled content in refurbishment projects, while also providing substantial financial savings.
  • Materials specified for refurbishment can easily exceed the minimum benchmark of 10% reused and recycled content recommended by Government bodies.
