  • Cost Benefit Case Study - Composting facility

    This cost benefit analysis is based on the design stage of a project to construct a new composting facility. The project value is approximately £3.2 million.

    The study found that there was a total potential saving (net of implementation cost) of 2.2%.

  • The Lambton Cokeworks reclamation scheme

    This case study describes the remediation of the former Lambton Cokeworks in County Durham, so that the land is suitable for redevelopment. Heavy mining and coke manufacture had contaminated the soil, so decontamination and landscaping was required before the planned housing development could take place. Recycled and secondary materials were used to manufacture different soil profiles that were suitable to grow grass and woodland.

  • Multiple Hospital Refurbishment, Manchester

    This case study describes the potential of achieving 71% overall waste recovery rates at the multiple hospital refurbishment in Manchester if all waste is recovered and 68% if packaging, timber and metal waste alone were recovered.

    This case study describes how to achieve a potential of 22% recycled content at no extra cost at Milkbank Housing Association (MHA) residential development project in Scotland. WRAP worked with Milnbank Housing Association to assess levels of recycled content in its timber-framed houses.

    Analyses of two typical refurbishment projects were carried out with Barclays Bank. Reuse of materials resulted in financial savings and opportunities were identified for both projects to increase the overall recycled content while remaining cost neutral.

    The study found that there was a total potential saving (net of implementation cost) of 0.03%.
