An appetite for plastics
31 August 2010
I am heartened by how much is being done to “green up” business, and that it is increasingly recognised that this can be good for business; that is what is at WRAP’s heart, after all. If you haven’t had the chance to see our latest report on the market for plastics from our Market Knowledge team, I would recommend it.
Personally I was particularly stuck by the opportunity, ripe for the picking, for manufacturers and reprocessors. There is a huge appetite (pardon the pun) for recovered food-grade polymers, not yet matched by supply. Alongside this, attention is turning to the opportunities to reprocess mixed plastics: the yoghurt pots and strawberry punnets and all those other troublesome bits of plastic that go in our bins. Since the last report in 2007, the recycling of plastic has increased by 20%. This is fantastic, but there is still huge potential to do much, much more. Enjoy the report!
