The challenges we face

By 2050, the world will be home to nine billion people in need of shelter, food, water and energy.

The need for change

It would require the resources of nearly three Earth size planets for future populations to consume at the rate we currently do in Europe. ‘Manufacture, use and dispose’ is no longer a viable model for our world. We must work together to re-think how we use resources.

Forecasts for the future

Growing pressures on businesses

As the global population grows, businesses face uncertainty over the availability and cost of essential raw materials. Unless business models change, supply and price volatility will have a substantial effect on business and the lives of individuals. Businesses must put resource efficiency at the heart of their growth strategy and work together to create an economy built to last.

European manufacturers already spend around 40% of their total costs on raw materials.
